Guided Tour of Karnak Temple Complex

Start your day with a deep dive into the world’s largest ancient religious site. Explore the Hypostyle Hall with its forest of 134 columns, sacred lake, obelisks, and chapels. Your guide will explain the ancient Egyptians’ understanding of the cosmos and solar events.

11:00 AM – Prepare for the Solar Eclipse
We’ll proceed to a designated viewing spot near the Sacred Lake or an open area within Karnak chosen for its optimal sky visibility. Eclipse viewing glasses will be distributed, and your guide will explain what to expect.

11:40 AM – Eclipse Begins (Partial Phase)
Watch as the moon begins to pass over the sun. The atmosphere will grow dimmer, and shadows sharper.

13:02 PM – Totality: The Solar Eclipse in Full Glory
At this exact moment, Luxor will fall under the shadow of the moon. For approximately 6 full minutes, day will turn to night as the sun is completely obscured. Standing amidst the ancient ruins of Karnak, you’ll witness this extraordinary celestial alignment in a setting once revered by ancient Egyptians who themselves worshipped the sun. Your guide will provide insight into how solar eclipses were interpreted in antiquity and the symbolism they held for pharaohs and priests.

 Post-Eclipse Reflections & Photos
As daylight returns, take some time to absorb the magnitude of what you’ve just experienced. This is the perfect opportunity for photos, journaling, or simply enjoying the atmosphere within the temple complex as it returns to its typical light and energy.

Visit Luxor Temple
continue to Luxor Temple, built largely by Amenhotep III and Ramses II. Though smaller than Karnak, it holds great significance, especially during the ancient Opet Festival which celebrated the power of the sun god Amun-Ra. The alignment of this temple with the Nile and Karnak gives further cosmic context to your day.
If you wish, take a walk along the recently restored Avenue of Sphinxes, the 3 km sacred processional route that once connected Karnak and Luxor temples. Your guide will point out unique features and explain how such processions reflected the movement of celestial bodies.
